The Developer in Residence (DiR) is a highly experienced, accomplished real estate professional selected by the director to mentor students throughout the semester on their coursework and career paths. The DiR guest lectures, critiques individual and team development projects in progress, and provides individual consultations for MRED+U students. 2021-22 Venny Torre, CEO and President, Torre Companies, Coral Gables, FL 2018-21 Tim Hernandez, AICP, Principal, New Urban Communities, Delray Beach, FL 2017-18 George de Guardiola Venny Torre is the principal of Torre Companies, comprised of Torre Development Group Inc., Torre Construction and Development, and Network Investments of South Florida. Over career spanning over 40 years, Mr. Torre has a proven track record in planning, designing, developing, building and executing successful real estate projects as well as creating lasting value for its clients. Respected and admired by his peers, Mr. Torre embodies Torre Companies’ culture of dedication to excellence, honoring highest quality, impeccable design, client satisfaction and accountability to every project and endeavor. Over more than two decades, Torre has been involved in numerous commercial and residential real estate development ventures that include multifamily, commercial, mixed-use, townhouses, high-end residences and historic preservation projects. These include many one of a kind award-winning and transformative projects with distinction in design and time- honored quality and workmanship. Torre acquired an affinity and appreciation for architecture and the “built environment” at an early age. He began working in the construction trade in his early teens and was exposed to the world of development and construction from that point forward. After beginning his studies in architecture, he realized that in real estate development was where his passion lied. After graduating college he began working with the Graham Companies which inspired his love for master planned communities, town building and urban redevelopment. Active in the community, Torre contributes his time and financial resources to many local non-profit community and charitable organizations, serving on several Boards of Directors and Committees. He is the current President of the Business Improvement District City of Coral Gables (BID), Board Member of the Planning & Zoning Board, Past Chairman of the City of Coral Gables Historic Preservation Board of Directors, Board Member of the Coral Gables Community Foundation and past VP and Board Member of Dade Heritage Trust. He is also a founding member of the Coral Gables Museum and served on its Board of Directors for six years. Torre is a licensed Florida General Contractor and Real Estate Broker.
