To support your decision‑making process, we’ve compiled answers to the topics prospective students ask about most often. This FAQ provides clear, straightforward guidance on admissions, curriculum, funding, and career outcomes in the MRED+U program, helping you understand what to expect and how the program aligns with your goals.   • Core Admissions & Program Structure

    Structure and Length of the MRED+U Program

    MRED+U is a 36‑credit program typically completed in one year, though some students extend to 1.5–2 years depending on work schedules, athletics, or personal circumstances.

    Is Work Experience Required to Apply?

    Work experience is recommended but not required. Relevant internships, co‑ops, or part‑time roles are viewed positively.

    What Undergraduate Backgrounds Are Acceptable?

    The program welcomes applicants from a wide range of fields, including architecture, business, real estate, engineering, planning, law, public relations, interior design, and related disciplines. In some cases, the admissions committee may recommend pre‑program finance coursework.

    Can I Apply Without Any Real Estate Experience or Background?

    Yes. Applicants from non‑real‑estate backgrounds are welcome and often bring valuable perspectives that enrich class discussions.

    Are There Recommended Readings Before Starting the Program?

    Yes. The program recommends the following:

  • Financial & Scholarship

    Tuition and Total Cost of the Program

    Tuition is charged per credit, and the 36‑credit total is just over $90,000, excluding living expenses. Applicants are typically directed to the university’s official cost‑of‑attendance page.

    Are Full Scholarships Available?

    • Full scholarships are not offered
    • Partial tuition scholarships (10–30%) may be awarded based on academic record and relevant experience
    • Awards are determined by the MRED+U Admissions Committee and included in acceptance packages

    Are Scholarships Different for International Students?

    No. Scholarships are program‑based, not dependent on citizenship or residency.

    Do You Offer Graduate Assistantships or VA Benefits?

    • Graduate Assistantships may be available to students
    • Veterans benefits / GI Bill are accepted; applicants should consult the UM Veterans Office for official guidance

    Rather than a fixed recruiter list, applicants are directed to alumni outcomes. 

  • Curriculum, Scheduling & Fit

    Can I Work While in the Program?

    The schedule allows for internships or part‑time work, though some required courses—especially Friday mornings—must be attended. Students who wish to continue full‑time employment are encouraged to extend the program to 1.5 or 2 years.

    Can I Attend a Class, Info Session, or Meet Faculty Before Applying?

    Yes. Opportunities include:

    • Virtual info sessions
    • Class visits (in person or via Zoom)
    • Attendance at final reviews, presentations, or lectures

    Are There Spring and Fall Starts?

    Yes. The program offers Fall and Spring entry points, though course sequencing may vary depending on the start term.

  • International Student

    Can I Apply If My English Test Scores (IELTS/TOEFL) Are Pending?

    Yes. Applications may be reviewed, but formal admission cannot be issued until official scores are received.

    Can International Students Extend the Program Length?

    No. International students must complete the program in one year. Extensions are not guaranteed due to visa and enrollment requirements.
