Gary is a Partner and Chief Investment Officer at The Meridian Group (TMG). Gary joined TMG in 2007, and is responsible for acquisitions, capital activities and investor relations. Gary has over 30 years of industry experience and is the chair for TMG’s Investment Committee.
Prior to joining TMG, Gary was a Global Partner at The Carlyle Group where he led the real estate fund’s acquisitions group. There he led and completed over $12 billion of investments in over 200 transactions, including acquisition, development, structured financing, and recapitalization of office, hotel, retail, residential, industrial, land, senior living, and mixed-use properties. He also led the firm’s efforts for the formation of Carlyle Realty Partners I-V, resulting in an aggregate of over $5 billion in investor commitments.
Before Carlyle, Gary was a partner at Vinson & Elkins LLP in Washington, DC and represented TMG in its first three deals.
Gary serves on several boards including George Washington University Business School’s Center for Real Estate and Urban Analysis, the University of Miami’s Master of Real Estate Development & Urbanism, and the DC History Center.
Gary received his B.A. in Economics and Mathematics from Vanderbilt University and his J.D. from The University of Texas School of Law.
